On Thursday, January 30, 2020, Jane Katherine (Strieter) Smith, passed at the at age of 73 after losing her 12-month battle with stomach and esophageal cancer. She was never in pain and in the last weeks she was surrounded every day by people who loved her. Jane was a selfless person whose actions showed us that it’s not about what you have, but the person you are and how you live. She saw the good in everyone and people were drawn to her because of how she made them feel. The loves of her life were her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “baba”, the name her only son used to call his grandmother. Proceeded in death by parents, Walter Strieter and Mary Uschlbec. Survived by son, Christopher Smith ; grandchildren, Connor, Ryan and Riley Smith ; siblings, Sharon Zmij, Gail Strieter and Jim Strieter; nephew and niece, Jimmy and Amy Strieter. There will be a funeral mass to celebrate her life Saturday, February 8th, at 1pm at St Malachi’s Church on West 25th in Cleveland, Ohio. The church will be open at 12pm and there will be a small reception afterwards to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to Malachi House or the Monday Night Meal program at St Malachi Parish.
