McMillin, Velma

Velma Helena Brokate McMillin went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2014. Velma was the oldest child born to Clarence and Adelaide Brokate. She was born on December 21, 1920 in Fremont, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Toledo in June of 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Home economics after which she was employed as Cafeteria Manager for GE’s Cleveland Wire Works and later was Cafeteria Manager for Colonnade Cafeterias in downtown Cleveland until March of 1976. She also worked for Cleveland Public Schools as a Substitute teacher from January of 1977 until her retirement in 1981.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 18 years Emerson (Mick) McMillin, her parents, Clarence and Adelaide (Rademacher) Brokate, her sisters Vernabelle Lenke, and Eunice Gertrude Brokate. Surviving are her stepsons Andrew Leeland of Tehachapi,, California; William of Willoughby, Ohio; her sister Doris Berry of Euclid; her brother Myron Brokate of Euclid; 5 nephews, 3 nieces and 4 Step grandchildren.
Velma was a 40 year resident of Broadview Heights and a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. The Family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the St Mathews church.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
